FAQ’s

WATER CHEMISTRY

Proper water chemistry is a very important factor in maintaining your swimming pool. Keeping your water balanced properly can maximize the life and appearance of your pool and ultimately make your summer a more enjoyable one!

Free Chlorine: 1-3
Bromine: 2-6
PH: 7.2-7.6
Total Alkalinity: 80-120
Calcium Hardness: 200-400

MY POOL LINER IS BLEACHED OR MY POOL PLASTER IS ROUGH?

High sanitizer levels and or corrosive water almost always cause this condition. Although your pool water may appear to be sparkling and clear, that does not mean that it is in balance. An imbalanced pool can cause many unwarranted results/ such as:

Heater/Heat exchangers corrode or scale
Pool plaster etches or scales
Pool liner develops unsightly wrinkles
Pool liner becomes brittle and shrinks
Algae forms in water
Brown or tan staining on gunite pool surfaces (caused from low alkalinity levels or metals falling out of saturation in the water)
Eye and skin irritation

** Many unpleasant surprises can result from improper water chemistry. Precision is always available by appointment to educate you how to properly balance your water for wonderful years of worry free enjoyment!

MY POOL HEATER IS NOT WORKING

Common causes of pool heater malfunction are:

A dirty filter is usually the culprit! As a filter gets dirty the flow is decreased which in turn can cause the pressure switch inside the pool heater to prevent the heater from igniting.

Variable speed pumps are also becoming more common. If your pump speed is set too low this can also cause this problem, once again not providing enough flow to allow the heater to function properly.

MY POOL LINER IS LEAKING, CAN I JUST REPLACE IT NEXT YEAR?

Our advice is always the same: “we wouldn’t recommend it”. If your pool liner is leaking, there will be chlorinated water trapped behind the liner. This will cause premature failure of your pool walls. Whether they are galvanized or polymer, the chlorinated water can cause very serious issues to your pool structure.

WHY

Many of our clients ask us “why choose gunite?” There are many reasons why gunite exceeds other popular methods. Gunite pools are framed with steel rebar, then sprayed with a concrete mixture to form a long-lasting, durable pool. When building a gunite pool, you have the ability to configure different shapes and styles to your liking. Whether you’re going for a classic rectangle or a more natural oasis/lagoon form, gunite’s versatility allows your imagination to be the only boundary. After the gunite shell is formed, the fun part comes! You can choose from an assortment of high-end finishes to enhance your pool’s beauty. Plaster finishes come in array of colors and textures to complement your outdoor living space.

Precision Pool & Spa takes pride in being the only plaster specialists in the Greater Rochester area. If you’re in the market for a new in-ground pool, consider gunite. We believe so much in our product that Precision Pool & Spa offers a lifetime transferable warranty on our gunite shell.
